Parasitology can be described as the relationship between the parasite (protozoa or amoeba) living at the expense of, and often causing harm to the host.
Most parasites inflict varying degrees of harm depending on the:
- General health and nutritional status of the host,
- Size and number of the parasite present,
- Location and migration path within the host.
Many parasitic infections are asymptomatic or produce only mild symptoms. Routine blood and stool examinations will uncover unsuspected infections.
